4 beautiful spots in Lombok

With Indonesia consisting of over 18,000 islands, most people miss out on Lombok and choose more well-known destinations like Bali instead. Lombok however is a natural paradise: beautiful beaches, gigantic waterfalls, impressive volcanos. Here are five beautiful spots in Lombok that you shouldn’t miss.

1. Mount Rinjani (see header image)
Rinjani is the second highest volcano in Lombok and can be climbed as part of a three-day tour. Most travelers book their tour in Senggigi – it is not advised to hike Rinjani on your own. From the top you have an incredible view – not only can you look directly into the volcano’s crater, but you can even see as far as Bali.

2. Tiu Kelep & Sendang Gile Waterfalls
Both waterfalls are located in the Gunung National Park in Senaru, in the north of Lombok. To reach the waterfalls, you have to hike through the park for about 30 minutes, but you will be rewarded – the waterfall is absolutely impressive, and the water doesn’t seem to have a source – instead it just emerges from the plants. The water of the natural pool beneath the falls is crystal-clear, and perfect for swimming and snorkeling.

3. Pura Meru Temple
Temples are not as common in Bali as on its neighboring island Bali, as most of Lombok’s inhabitants are Muslims. Nonetheless, you can still find a few temples around – one of them being the Pura Meru Temple. This temple is not only the largest Hindu temple in Lombok, but also one of the most important. Reaching Pura Meru from Mataram is fairly easy – you can either drive on your own, or rent a taxi for cheap.

4. Kuta
Kuta is famous for its relaxed atmosphere, but also for its big waves attracting many surfers: Gerupuk is the most popular beach amongst experienced surfers, while Selong Belanak is ideal for beginners. Because of its beautiful bays and soft white sand, Kuta is also perfect if all you want to do is swim or lie on the beach.
